Bronze Butterfly Statement Necklace with Labradorite, Lapis Lazuli
One of a kind hand formed large pure bronze butterfly with a blue labradorite setting hanging on a copper chain with green patina copper beads and blue lapis lazuli stone beads. This large statement butterfly amulet was designed, handcrafted and kiln fired in my studio with pure Bronze from Bronze Metal Clay.
Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life. Many cultures associate the butterfly with our souls. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life.
The necklace is approx. 18 inch ( 45.72 cm) long, the butterfly is 3.5 inch (18cm) wide and 0.05 inch (1.4 mm) thick.
Metals can develop patina over time if unused, and can be cleaned with a polishing cloth. Bronze ages very nicely.
Made in the USA and crafted with great care in my studio.
*WHAT IS BRONZE PRECIOUS METAL CLAY? Bronze Metal clay is a medium consisting of very small particles of the metal bronze, mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewelry, beads, and small sculptures. Similar to porcelain pottery clay, Metal Clay can be hand formed or molded into anything you can make with pottery clay. After drying and sanding, the bronze clay will be fired with 1550 degrees Fahrenheit in a kiln. The binder burns away, leaving the pure sintered bronze. The resulting creations are always one of a kind pieces in the finest quality Bronze you can buy.
I enjoy working with this material, it gives me the maximum freedom of expression to create unique artwork.
GOOD TO KNOW:
Bronze jewelry will develop a rich gold patina over time. If this is not to your taste, you may restore shine with Worcestershire sauce! Dip the piece into the sauce for a minute, then thoroughly rinse in water. The acidity of the sauce will help remove tarnish. You can also maintain the finish of your bronze jewelry by washing it frequently with soap and water, which removes the body oils that facilitate oxidation.
I send you your jewelry with a coating of Renaissance wax already applied. This layer is easily washed off, and you can minimize the oxidation by taking your jewelry off at night, and washing it regularly with soap and water. You can also periodically coat it with any metal wax, or a wax called RENAISSANCE WAX, which prevents the jewelry from tarnishing and inhibits the oxidation reaction with your skin oils. Wax will wear off, but is easy to re-apply at home.
Another easy fix? You can coat the inside of your ring with clear nail polish, which creates a barrier that prevents oxidation. Clear nail polish also has to be reapplied periodically.
